Highlights:
- Safe and beautiful swimming beaches
- Lots of activities and entertainment for kiddies in Cape Town and along the Garden Route
- Self drive at your own pace and leisure - plenty of interesting places to stop between destinations
- Malaria-free family-friendly safari
Day 1
Arrive at Cape Town International Airport. In the Arrivals hall, a member of the African Pathfinder team will meet you, assist you with the hired car and personally escort you to your first destination. Spend 3 nights at Camps Bay Village in a self-contained 2 bedroomed apartment, including breakfast daily:
CAMPS BAY VILLAGE
Camps Bay Village is an ideal destination for families. There is a range of lovely apartments located within easy walking distance to the fabulous Camps Bay beach, restaurants and shops. Each apartment is fully equipped for self catering, giving you the flexibility to be self sufficient, however breakfast is also offered at the central resort. You will have use of the swimming pools, gyms and the travel desk services offer assistance for any local tour bookings.
Day 1 - 3
There is so much to see and do in this beautiful city - something for everyone no matter your age! Families should not miss a visit to the V&A Waterfront, enjoy a tour of the Aquarium, go on a sailing boat cruise, visit the Scratch-Patch and collect semi-precious gems. Then of course there's a trip on the Hop-on-hop-off topless tour bus, which is a great way to see the popular sights of the city. Stop in at the World of Birds, take a cable-car ride up Table Mountain, picnic on the beach, visit the penguins at Boulders Beach - so much to see!
Day 4
Pack the family in the car and head out after breakfast, driving along the coastal route to the Overberg region of Stanford. This is an easy 2hour drive and we recommend you stop en-route to enjoy a dip in the sea or a light lunch. Spend the next 2 nights at the lovely Blue Gum Country Estate, in a family suite with breakfast and high tea included:
BLUE GUM COUNTRY ESTATE
Blue Gum is one of our most favourite country destinations. Located on a lush working wine farm, at the foot of rolling mountains, Blue Gum has a lot to offer families. Enjoy the homely, friendly atmosphere and delicious country cuisine. Activities on offer include tennis, walking trails, quad-biking, mountain-biking, boules and swimming in the pool. Nearby attractions include whale watching, Great White Shark cage diving, beaches, coastal towns, wine estates, art galleries and more.
Day 5
Enjoy another sumptuous breakfast before packing up and checking out. Today your journey continues up the famous Garden Route to the popular town of Knysna. This is a leisurely drive that winds through open farmlands, dramatic coastal drives and eventually brings you across the breath-taking Knysna lagoon. Here you spend the next 3 nights at The Lofts in a family room with a breakfast voucher for the famous Ile De Pain bakery:
THE LOFTS
The Lofts are located on the water's edge of the Knysna Lagoon and offer unique, quaint accommodation in loft-style rooms. They're ideal for families as they are within walking distance to shops, lovely restaurants and some water activities including boat cruises to the Knysna Heads (a must!). Breakfasts are enjoyed at the fabulous Ile de Pain bakery downstairs, a place where, in season, people queue for hours to get a table (The Loft guests never have to queue as they are always allocated a table!).
Day 6 - 8
Spend your days exploring this beautiful region. Take the kids to the Knysna Elephant Park, the Bird Sanctuary and Monkeyland. If you're the adventurous type, enjoy a Treetop Canopy Tour or hire some canoes and paddle on the lagoon. Boat trips, hiking in the forests or just lazing on the beautiful beaches of nearby Plettenberg Bay. There is something to keep you busy every day!
Day 9
Pack up and check out of the Lofts. Continue your journey up through the Tsitsikamma Forest and on into the Eastern Cape. Make your way to the Addo Elephant National Park and spend your next 2 nights on safari at the lovely River Bend Lodge, including all meals and game viewing activities:
RIVER BEND LODGE
River Bend has been a favourite safari destination of ours for many years and has been unwaveringly popular for family safaris. Not only is the accommodation ideal with interleading suites, but the staff are welcoming and fantastic with children. Parents will find that they have time to relax and enjoy some "alone time" while the kids join the chef to bake cookies, or with the therapist to have some mini treatments or play for hours in the playground. The highlight of course is also the game drives and unlike other safari lodges, children of all ages can enjoy their safari. Where possible families are allocated a private ranger and game viewing vehicle.
Day 9 & 10
Spend your days exploring the vast expanse of wilderness with your game ranger. The park is home to an abundance of wildlife including elephant, lion, buffalo, rhino, numerous antelope species, zebra and many more exciting creatures to learn about! Back at the lodge, dine on the best cuisine in the valley, retire to elegant suites and listen to the chirp of the nightlife as you drift to sleep.
Day 11
Enjoy your last morning game drive, feast on a full breakfast and then pack up and check out. Say farewell to your new friends as you depart for Port Elizabeth airport. Drop off the hired car and check in for your flight to Cape Town. Once in Cape Town, make your way to the International Departures and check in for your flight home.
