SUN, SAND & SURF
With a coastline outlining more than half the country, South Africa boasts a diverse choice of beach or seaside destinations. Our coastline varies from the dry, windy, barren but equally beautiful west coast to the lush, tropical and golden sands of the east coast. In-between lies the southern coast, no doubt the most popular of all in the country, with its perfect wind-free and warm climate, soft white sandy beaches and cool blue ocean. Then, just across our border, lies our friendly neighbour Mozambique, with its numerous idyllic islands lying just off-shore in perfect, unspoilt splendour. Here you will find sublime luxury combined with unsurpassed diving amongst untouched coral reefs in the calm, clear and warm Indian Ocean. Have we whetted your appetite enough?
See below for a few of our favourite spots for sun-filled pleasure!!
Cape Town & Cape Peninsula
Being South Africa.s Number 1 tourist destination, Cape Town not only offers the natural beauty of the mountain and the vibrancy of the city, but it also has some of the most beautiful and picturesque beaches in the world. On the Atlantic-facing side of the Peninsula, you will find the exquisite boulder-strewn beaches of Clifton, Camps Bay and Llandudno, where the beautiful people go! For families, your best bet are the beaches of Hout Bay, Fish Hoek or Muizenberg, the latter also a popular surfing spot! For the best photo opportunity, Blouberg Beach is the best, with the majestic and photogenic Table Mountain in the background! Naturally there is a wealth of accommodation options to choose from, many within close proximity or walking distance to the beach. Give us a call to select yours!
Plettenberg Bay environs
Further along the coast, in the Garden Route lies Plettenberg Bay, a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. In our opinion, Plett offers the best beaches in the area and there are 3 to choose from: Central Beach, as the name denotes, lies in the middle and is the busiest in season. Popular with teenagers and kids, there are a number of great family restaurants nearby. Robberg Beach is perfect for long strolls or jogs along its endless shoreline and whales and dolphins are often spotted here. And then there's Keurbooms, a little wilder but oh, so beautiful! There are a number of guest-houses and charming B&B.s within close proximity to either of these beaches.
Kwazulu Natal coastline
It is difficult to narrow down just one or two beaches along the KZN coastline when the entire region is known for its sandy and sun-filled holidays! So starting from the south, the golden beaches of Ramsgate, Port Edward and others are perfect for families, some with blueflag status. North of Durban, we have the Dolphin Coast, aptly named for the bottlenosed dolphins that make this their playground all year round! But further north is the pristine Elephant Coast, home to the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park, a natural heritage site. The beaches here are wild and beautiful. A few exclusive and beautifully crafted lodges allow you to explore this unspoilt and natural region.
Surfer's Paradise: Jeffrey's Bay & Eastern Cape
International surfers flock to the legendary waves of a bustling little town called Jeffrey.s Bay, just south of Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape. This popular and idyllic spot also has blue flag beach status and is therefore a great option for families. The warm Indian Ocean waters also extend further eastwards beyond PE and East London towards the Transkei. This is home to the beautiful Wild Coast, another truly unspoilt beach location. Enjoy superb diving, horse-trails, fishing, canoeing and other water sports. Close to the game reserves of the Eastern Cape, this makes an ideal safari/beach destination combination!
Mozambique: Bazaruto Archipelago
Lying north of the capital Maputo, and just off the coast is a chain of 5 idyllic islands, the largest two being Bazaruto and its neighbour Benguerra. Declared National Parks in the early 70's the islands have remained virtually untouched and sustain a diverse population of land and aquatic fauna and flora. Look forward to uncrowded pristine beaches, fabulous bird watching and of course, excellent diving and snorkelling. Humpback whales, dolphins and moray eels often accompany the diver on explorations of this fascinating marine world where over 600 species of fish have been recorded. There are a number of excellent island lodges to stay at to suit every need, whether for a romantic honeymoon or a great family holiday!
Mozambique: Quirimbas Archipelago
Direct flights to Pemba from Johannesburg have opened up this northern-most region of Mozambique. Extending all the way north to Tanzania, 32 islands make up the Quirimbas Archipelago where you will find some of the most stunning and exclusive island lodges in the world. The pristine white sandy beaches, tranquil turquoise warm water, breath-taking scenery, magnificent diving, excellent game fishing and interesting activities and excursions make this such an exciting and unforgettable beach destination.
